The Power of Shame

Melody Workman challenges us to protect our minds from the perversion of shame, by allowing our savior to help us combat these thoughts.

WHAT YOU CAN DO THIS WEEK

Ask Jesus to reveal an area of your life where you are carrying shame in your heart. This would be an area that makes you feel bad and not worthy of God’s love. What are your thoughts regarding this shame? Have a conversation with Jesus about each thought and whether or not it is from Him or Satan. Ask Him for His help in accepting the truth about what He says to you regarding this area of shame, and reject the lies of Satan. Pray Jesus will show you any actions you can take to protect your mind by having more godly influences in your life and by sharing this shame with Him and others.

The soundtrack of our world and culture is anxiety, depression, anger, and shame, telling us we’re unloved, unsafe, unworthy, and not secure. And if we only focus on our own thoughts, feelings, and insecurities, truth can easily be drowned out. This is not of God. We need to listen to Jesus. His soundtrack is his word, declaring we are seen, loved, valued, and safe. It’s time to change the track! But how do we do this? We have to actively listen. We focus on God’s soundtrack through His word, His people, and His worship. Philippians 4:8 says, “Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.” This is exactly what we are called to do.
