How to Fix Your Life

Matt Brown Week 2

Pastor Matthew Stephen Brown shows how easily we screw up our own lives, but also how God remains patient with our repentance, and constantly gives us an opportunity to return to obedience.

WHAT YOU CAN DO THIS WEEK

Reflect on the experience of Jonah and his running from God. What are your thoughts and feelings about his experience? Ask God if you are running away from any work He wants to do in or through you. What did He impress upon you about any actions He wants you to take to obey Him? Is there any sin you feel led to repent of and what would it look like to do this and follow Him? Close by asking Him specifically where He is calling you to serve Him now? In what ways is He showing you that this is where He wants you to serve? Pray He will reveal any hindrances you have that would make it hard to follow Him in this ministry.

Despite Jonah’s obedience, he was unhappy when the Ninevites repented and God showed them mercy. He knew YHWH to be a God who shows mercy and compassion to sinners. It was the very reason why Jonah was so reluctant to prophetically speak to the nation. Sadly, many Christians have a heart like Jonah's. Loving our enemies is hard, but that is what makes us different! We have to learn to genuinely love them and rejoice when they repent. We have to die to ourselves to be made alive in God. A real movement of God reveals the hatred in our hearts. The challenge and goal of this series is for us to confront this hatred, moving from hate to hope in a season of political tension. We are called to hold to our spiritual mission during political or national conflict.
