How Do I Repent?

Alfredo Ramos Week 3

What is repentance and how do we do it? Pastor Alfredo Ramos explains how repentance is a lifelong journey lead by confession, and God’s patience and mercy.

WHAT YOU CAN DO THIS WEEK

What thoughts and feelings surface as you think about repentance? In what ways does your life reflect obedience to God and love toward others? Ask God to help you discern any unloving thoughts, feelings, or behaviors that He wants you to repent of. Picture what it would look like for you to turn away from this sin and live a life ruled by God in this area. Talk to God about anything you may be holding onto or unwilling to do. What would be some faithful actions you can take that He can use to help you to change? Close your time by reflecting on God and what He reveals of Himself in the story of Jonah.

Despite Jonah’s obedience, he was unhappy when the Ninevites repented and God showed them mercy. He knew YHWH to be a God who shows mercy and compassion to sinners. It was the very reason why Jonah was so reluctant to prophetically speak to the nation. Sadly, many Christians have a heart like Jonah's. Loving our enemies is hard, but that is what makes us different! We have to learn to genuinely love them and rejoice when they repent. We have to die to ourselves to be made alive in God. A real movement of God reveals the hatred in our hearts. The challenge and goal of this series is for us to confront this hatred, moving from hate to hope in a season of political tension. We are called to hold to our spiritual mission during political or national conflict.
