The Myth of Sexual Purity

“You
have heard the commandment that says, ‘You must not commit adultery.’ But I
say, anyone who even looks at a woman with lust has already committed adultery
with her in his heart. MATTHEW 5:27-28
NLT

Sexual purity is a myth

For from within, out of a
person’s heart, come evil thoughts, sexual
immorality… MARK 7:21 NLT

Christians should talk honestly about sex

What I think about sex is determined by…

At Sandals Church, we follow the Bible’s
teaching on sex

The Bible teaches…

A sex drive is a good thing

Then
God blessed them and said, “Be fruitful
and multiply. GENESIS 1:28 NLT

Now
the man and his wife were both naked,
but they felt no shame. GENESIS 2:25 NLT

Now
Adam had sexual relations with
his wife, Eve, and she became pregnant. When she gave birth to Cain, she said,
“With the LORD’s help, I have produced a man!” GENESIS 4:1

Adam
had sexual relations with his
wife again… GENESIS 4:25 NLT

Being driven
by sex is a bad thing

Now David’s son Absalom had a
beautiful sister named Tamar.
And Amnon, her half brother, fell desperately in love with her. Amnon became so
obsessed with Tamar that he
became ill. She was a virgin, and Amnon thought he could never have her. 2 SAMUEL 13:1 NLT

????????; a longing
(especially for what is forbidden): — concupiscence, desire, lust (after)

But Amnon had a very crafty friend—his
cousin Jonadab. He was the son of David’s brother Shimea.  One day Jonadab said to Amnon, “What’s the
trouble? Why should the son of a king look so dejected morning after morning?”
So Amnon told him, “I am in love with Tamar, my brother Absalom’s sister.”

“Well,” Jonadab said, “I’ll tell you
what to do. Go back to bed and pretend you are ill. When your father comes to
see you, ask him to let Tamar come and prepare some food for you. Tell him
you’ll feel better if she prepares it as you watch and feeds you with her own
hands.” 2 SAMUEL 13:3-5 NLT

But Amnon wouldn’t listen to her, and
since he was stronger than she was, he raped her. Then suddenly Amnon’s love
turned to hate, and he hated her even more than he had loved her. “Get out of
here!” he snarled at her. 2 SAMUEL
13:14-15 NLT

Sexual sin affects us differently than other sin

Run from sexual sin! No other sin so
clearly affects the body as this
one does. For sexual immorality is a sin against your own body. 1 CORINTHIANS 6:18 NLT
