Passover points to the way for me to be free from God’s judgment

Then Moses called all the elders of Israel together and said to them, “Go, pick out a lamb or young goat for each of your families, and slaughter the Passover animal. Drain the blood into a basin. Then take a bundle of hyssop branches and dip it into the blood. Brush the hyssop across the top and sides of the doorframes of your houses. And no one may go out through the door until morning. For the LORD will pass through the land to strike down the Egyptians. But when he sees the blood on the top and sides of the doorframe, the LORD will pass over your home. He will not permit his death angel to enter your house and strike you down. EXODUS 12:21-23 NLT

The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! JOHN 1:29 NLT

… the congregation of Israel shall kill their lambs at twilight. EXODUS 12:6 ESV

For you know that God paid a ransom to save you from the empty life you inherited from your ancestors. And it was not paid with mere gold or silver, which lose their value. It was the precious blood of Christ, the sinless, spotless Lamb of God. 1 PETER 1:18-19 NLT

I must choose God’s mercy while I still have time

And Pharaoh rose up in the night, he and all his servants and all the Egyptians. And there was a great cry in Egypt, for there was not a house where someone was not dead. Then he summoned Moses and Aaron by night and said, “Up, go out from among my people, both you and the people of Israel; and go, serve the LORD, as you have said. Take your flocks and your herds, as you have said, and be gone, and bless me also!” EXODUS 12:30-32 ESV

For “everyone who calls on the name of the LORD will be saved.” ROMANS 10:13 NLT

My Notes

Personal Reflection Guide

Find a quiet place and take a few moments to reflect and prayerfully process this message with God. As you listened and read through the sermon notes, what do you sense that He is speaking to you? What feelings and questions do you have about them? As you reflect on the Passover (Exodus 12:21-23), how does this change your perspective of God? Is He scary? Does His judgment anger you? Share these with God and ask Him to help you understand His grace and judgment. Then, consider the guardrails you have in your life to keep you on a path of blessing. Where did those come from, or where are they lacking? Which of the Ten Commandments is the most challenging for you and how have you tried to follow or ignore them in the past? Finally, consider who Jesus is: the Passover lamb who would take away the sin of the world. If God brought His judgment today, what would you stand guilty of? Confess that to Him now and call on the name of Jesus to save you from yourself. Share and discuss this experience with your group.

Discussion Questions

  1. REAL WITH SELF: What are some of the standards that you live by? Where did they come from? How do they compare with the Ten Commandments God provided in Exodus 20:1-17. Which Commandment is particularly challenging for you to follow?

  2. REAL WITH GOD: Read Isaiah 48:17-18 NLT. God has a path to bless you. What are the guardrails you have in your life to keep you out of the gutter? How have you experienced God’s blessing in following His commands?

  3. REAL WITH OTHERS: In Exodus 12:21-23, Passover points to a sacrifice for us to be free from God’s judgment. Is it hard for you to believe or remember that Jesus is the Passover Lamb who takes away the sins of the world? In what specific ways has God saved you from yourself?

  4. REAL WITH SELF: Our days are numbered for God’s coming judgment. What do you need to repent of while you still have time? Have you personally called on Jesus to be saved? How can your group come alongside you with this?

  5. TAKE ACTION: Read Romans 10:13-14 NLT. Who has God put in your life that needs to hear the life-saving message about Jesus Christ? How could you start a conversation with them and invite them to hear the Easter message with you? Pray and invite them this week.
