Luke 16: What’s Really Valuable

252 – Luke 16: What’s
Really Valuable

“One who is faithful in a very
little is also faithful in much, and one who is dishonest in a very little is
also dishonest in much. If then you
have not been faithful in the unrighteous wealth, who will entrust to you the
true riches? And if you have not been
faithful in that which is another’s, who will give you that which is your
own? No servant can serve two
masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be
devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and
money.” The Pharisees, who were lovers of money, heard all these things,
and they ridiculed him. And he said to them, “You are those who justify
yourselves before men, but God knows your hearts. For what is exalted among men
is an abomination in the sight of God.” LUKE 16:10-15 ESV

Jesus
takes advantage of every opportunity to help us get real

SELF:  One who is faithful
in a very little is also faithful in much, and one who is dishonest
in a very little is also dishonest in much. LUKE 16:10 ESV

Money
is the physical representation of this statement: You did something that has
value.

Jesus
was the physical representation of this statement: You have value.

For God so loved
the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall
not perish but have eternal life. JOHN 3:16 ESV

GOD: No servant can serve two masters, for either he will
hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise
the other. You cannot serve God and money. LUKE 16:13 ESV

How do
I know what master I’m serving?

Which one am I bound to?

Which one is most rewarding?

OTHERS: And he said to them, “You are those who justify
yourselves before men, but God knows your hearts. For what is
exalted among men is an abomination in the sight of God.” LUKE 16:10 ESV

The heart is deceitful above all things, and
desperately sick… JEREMIAH 17:9-10 ESV

For from within, out of the heart of man,
come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, coveting,
wickedness, deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride, foolishness. All these
evil things come from within, and they defile a person. MARK 7:21-23 ESV

But those who want to get rich fall into
temptation and a snare and many foolish and harmful desires which plunge men
into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all sorts of
evil, and some by longing for it have wandered away from the faith and pierced
themselves with many griefs. 1 TIMOTHY 6:9
ESV
