Your Kingdom Come

The Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God. ROMANS 8:26 NIV

Your Kingdom come

In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord, high and exalted, seated on a throne; and the train of his robe filled the temple. Above him were seraphim, each with six wings: With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying. And they were calling to one another: “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory.” At the sound of their voices the doorposts and thresholds shook and the temple was filled with smoke. “Woe to me!” I cried. “I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the Lord Almighty.” Then one of the seraphim flew to me with a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with tongs from the altar. With it he touched my mouth and said, “See, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for.” Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I. Send me!” ISAIAH 6:1-8 NLT

My Notes

Personal Reflection Guide

Take a few moments to set aside any burdens from the day, giving them to Jesus and inviting him into this time. When you are ready, pray the beginning of the Lord’s prayer slowly, focusing on who it is you are speaking to. Pray: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. MATTHEW 6:9-10 Visualize yourself kneeling before King Jesus and bringing your concerns before him for his help. What are your thoughts and feelings about God and yourself as you do this? What is it about God that motivates you the most about participating in whatever he wants you to do to build his kingdom? To what extent are you living out what he wants you to do? What gets in the way of this? Write down your thoughts in the space below, sharing with your group if you feel comfortable.

Discussion Questions

  1. PERSONAL REFLECTION: Begin group time by completing the Personal Reflection Guide, (link found on the top of the sermon notes). Use this time to pray the beginning of the Lord’s prayer slowly and attentively. MATTHEW 6:9-10. (Tip: playing some soft background music is helpful here!)
  2. REAL WITH SELF: To what extent are you using prayer to grow in your relationship with God and to serve him?
  3. REAL WITH GOD: Read ISAIAH 6:1-8 NLT. Be real about how you’ve treated God. Do you treat him as your King, or do you only want the Savior? How could you develop more reverence for God?
  4. REAL WITH GOD: Whose kingdom have you been trying to build: yours, God’s or someone else’s? What in your life do you need to submit to the King of Kings? What makes it hard for you to give up control to God?
  5. REAL WITH OTHERS: Who are the men and women in your life who don’t know the Kingdom of God? How can you introduce Jesus to them?
  6. TAKE ACTION: Pray the Lord’s Prayer every day this week, and focus on ‘Your Kingdom come.’ Invite God to direct your life and show you where to serve in his kingdom. Pray for specific people who don’t know Jesus as Lord and Savior, and as God calls you, reach out to them. Share what God has done in your life and ask how you can pray for them.
