GOD CREATED LIGHT TO HELP US UNDERSTAND WHO HE IS
Then God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. And God saw that the light was good. Then he separated the light from the darkness. GENESIS 1:3-4 NLT
And God made the two great lights—the greater light to rule the day and the lesser light to rule the night—and the stars. GENESIS 1:16 ESV
This is the message we heard from Jesus and now declare to you: God is light, and there is no darkness in him at all. 1 JOHN 1:5 NLT
GOD HAS PLACED LIGHTS EXACTLY WHERE WE NEEDED THEM TO BE
When I look at the night sky and see the work of your fingers—the moon and the stars you set in place—what are mere mortals that you should think about them, human beings that you should care for them? PSALM 8:3-4 NLT
Science can give us information, but God gives us purpose.
GOD CREATED A SPECIFIC LIGHT TO LEAD PEOPLE TO JESUS
Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the east came to Jerusalem, saying, “Where is he who has been born king of the Jews? For we saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.” MATTHEW 2:1-2 ESV
After listening to the king, they went on their way. And behold, the star that they had seen when it rose went before them until it came to rest over the place where the child was. When they saw the star, they rejoiced exceedingly with great joy. And going into the house, they saw the child with Mary his mother, and they fell down and worshiped him. Then, opening their treasures, they offered him gifts, gold and frankincense and myrrh. MATTHEW 2:9-11 ESV
JESUS IS THE LIGHT I NEED TO CONQUER THE DARKNESS I FACE
“And you, my little son, will be called the prophet of the Most High, because you will prepare the way for the Lord. You will tell his people how to find salvation through forgiveness of their sins. Because of God’s tender mercy, the morning light from heaven is about to break upon us, to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, and to guide us to the path of peace.” LUKE 1:76-79 NLT
Jesus spoke… and said, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.” JOHN 8:12 NLT
