Luke 6: How to Become More Like Jesus

2:52 – Luke 6: How to Become
More Like Jesus

One day soon afterward Jesus went up
on a mountain to pray, and he prayed to God all night. At daybreak he called
together all of his disciples and chose twelve of them to be apostles. Here are
their names: Simon (whom he named Peter), Andrew (Peter’s brother), James,
John, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James (son of Alphaeus), Simon (who
was called the zealot), Judas (son of James), Judas Iscariot (who later
betrayed him). LUKE 6:12-14 NLT

It’s
not important who they were, what’s important is what they challenged to
become

Then Jesus gave the following
illustration: “Can one blind person lead another? Won’t they both fall into a
ditch? Students are not greater than their teacher. But the student who is
fully trained will become like the teacher.” LUKE 6:39-40 NLT

To
become more like Jesus I must:

Change
the way I evaluate my life

And he lifted up his eyes on
his disciples, and said: “Blessed are you who are poor, for
yours is the kingdom of God. Blessed are you who are hungry now, for you shall
be satisfied. Blessed are you who weep now, for you shall laugh. Blessed
are you when people hate you and when they exclude you and revile you and spurn
your name as evil, on account of the Son of Man!” LUKE 6:20-22 ESV

But woe to you who are rich, for you
have received your consolation. Woe to you who are full now, for you shall be
hungry. Woe to you who laugh now, for you shall mourn and weep. Woe to you,
when all people speak well of you, for so their fathers did to the false
prophets. LUKE 6:24-26 ESV

Change the way I evaluate people

Do not judge others, and you will not be judged. Do not
condemn others, or it will all come back against you. Forgive others, and you
will be forgiven. LUKE 6:37 NLT

If you love only those who love you, why should you get
credit for that? Even sinners love those who love them! And if you do good only
to those who do good to you, why should you get credit? Even sinners do that
much! LUKE 6:22-33 NLT

Change the way I respond to hurtful
people

But to you who are willing to listen, I say, love your
enemies! Do good to those who hate you. Bless those who curse you. Pray for
those who hurt you. If someone slaps you on one cheek, offer the other cheek
also. LUKE 6:27-29 NLT

A good person produces good things
from the treasury of a good heart, and an evil person produces evil things from
the treasury of an evil heart. What you say flows from what is in your heart. LUKE 6:45 NLT

Change the way I respond to hurting
people

You must be compassionate, just as your Father is
compassionate. LUKE 6:36 NLT

Give, and you will receive. Your gift
will return to you in full—pressed down, shaken together to make room for more,
running over, and poured into your lap. The amount you give will determine the
amount you get back. LUKE 6:38 NLT
