Luke 20: What Does Life Look Like After I Die?

252 – Luke 20: What
does life look like after I die?

Then
Jesus was approached by some Sadducees—religious leaders who say there is no
resurrection from the dead. They posed this question: “Teacher, Moses gave
us a law that if a man dies, leaving a wife but no children, his brother should
marry the widow and have a child who will carry on the brother’s name. Well, suppose
there were seven brothers. The oldest one married and then died without
children. So the second brother married the widow, but
he also died. Then the third brother married her. This
continued with all seven of them, who died without children. Finally, the woman
also died. So tell us, whose wife will she be in the
resurrection? For all seven were married to her!” Jesus replied, “Marriage is for people here
on earth. But in the age to
come, those worthy of being raised from the dead will neither marry nor be
given in marriage. And they will
never die again. In this respect they will be like angels. They are children of
God and children of the resurrection. “But now, as to whether the dead will
be raised—even Moses proved this when he wrote about the burning bush. Long
after Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob had died, he referred to the Lord as ‘the God
of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.’ So he is the God of the living, not the dead,
for they are all alive to him.” “Well said, Teacher!” remarked some of the teachers of
religious law who were standing there. And then no one dared to ask him any more
questions.  LUKE 20:27-30 NLT

For followers of Jesus, life after death will
be…

Real

Jesus
told her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live, even after
dying.” JOHN 11:25 NLT

Don’t
let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me. There is more
than enough room in my Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told
you that I am going to prepare a place for you? When everything is ready, I
will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am. JOHN 14:1 NLT

New

Home

Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the old heaven
and the old earth had disappeared. And the sea was also gone. And I saw the holy
city, the new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven like a bride
beautifully dressed for her husband. I heard a loud shout from the throne, saying, “Look, God’s
home is now among his people! He will live with them, and they will be his
people. God himself will be with them. He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and
there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are
gone forever.” REVELATION 21:1-4 NLT

Bodies

But
we are citizens of heaven, where the Lord Jesus Christ lives. And we are
eagerly waiting for him to return as our Savior. He will take our weak mortal
bodies and change them into glorious bodies like his own, using the same power
with which he will bring everything under his control. PHILIPPIANS 3:19-21 NLT

We
grow weary in our present bodies, and we long to put on our heavenly bodies
like new clothing. For we will put on heavenly bodies; we will not be spirits
without bodies. 2 CORINTHIANS 5:1-2 NLT

1 CORINTHIANS 15:35-53 NLT

Paradise

Then
he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your Kingdom.” And Jesus
replied, “I assure you, today you will be with me in paradise.” LUKE 23:42-43 NLT

You
make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy;
at your right hand are pleasures forevermore. PSALM 16:11 ESV
