Then they reached Jericho, and as Jesus and his disciples left town, a large crowd followed him. A blind beggar named Bartimaeus (son of Timaeus) was sitting beside the road. When Bartimaeus heard that Jesus of Nazareth was nearby, he began to shout, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!”
“Be quiet!” many of the people yelled at him. But he only shouted louder, “Son of David, have mercy on me!” MARK 10:46-48 NLT
When Jesus heard him, he stopped and said, “Tell him to come here.” So they called the blind man. “Cheer up,” they said. “Come on, he’s calling you!” Bartimaeus threw aside his coat, jumped up, and came to Jesus. MARK 10:49-50 NLT
“What do you want me to do for you?” Jesus asked. “My Rabbi,” the blind man said, “I want to see!” MARK 10:51 NLT

Find a quiet place where you can be alone with God. Read through Mark 10:46-52 slowly, paying attention to what Bartimaeus might have been thinking and feeling. Spend a few minutes reflecting on what you might feel if you were in his position. Is there something that you would ask God for (e.g. healing, a sense of worth, courage)? To what extent do you feel, like Bartimaeus, that you have spent time waiting beside the road? Now, imagine that you have just heard that Jesus is near you. Will you cry out to him? As you move through your week, reopen this conversation with God and ask him for what you need.
